These Hidden Notorious Reasons Could Be The Cause Of Your Weight Gain
Things you don’t know about the Weight Gain?
If you are taking more calories than usual or have cut back on the workout, you should not be surprised if your weight creeps up. But, if you are doing everything as you are told, and still your weight goes up? It is time to get a little deeper into to know what could be the possible reason.
Lack of Sleep
There are two issues at work with weight gain and sleep. Firstly if you are up too late, the chances are greater that you will go for some late-night snacking, adding more calories. The other possible cause can be related when your body is sleep-deprived. Even a slight change in hormone level can increase the appetite and hunger, also makes you feel not as full even after eating.
Stress
When life becomes too demanding get, our body goes into survival mode. The “stress hormone,” cortisol is secreted, which prompts in an increase in appetite. Often at times of stress, we reach out for high-calorie comfort foods. This deadly combination is a perfect breeding space for weight gain.
Antidepressants
Steroids
Anti-inflammatory steroid drugs such as prednisone cause weight gain. Increased appetite and fluid retention are the main cause. Some people may also find a temporary change, where their body stores fat while taking steroids such as the face, belly, or the back of a neck. If you have taken steroids for more than one week, don’t quit them abruptly. This can lead to serious health problems. Consult with your doctor first.
Drugs That May Cause Weight Gain
Many other prescription medications are linked to weight gain. It can antipsychotic drugs (used for treating disorders like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder), along with drugs to treat seizures, migraines, high blood pressure, and diabetes. Talk with your doctor to find the medication that treats your symptoms with fewer side effects.
Don’t Jump to Blame the Pill
Hypothyroidism
If your thyroid is not making sufficient thyroid hormone, and you’re feeling tired, weak, cold, and gaining weight. Without sufficient thyroid hormone, your metabolism may slow down, causing more weight gain. Thyroid functioning at a lower end of the normal range may also cause weight gain. Treating through medication can also reverse some weight gain.
Don’t Blame Menopause
A lot of women gain weight at the time of menopause, however, hormones are not the only cause. Aging also slows down your metabolism, so you should burn few calories. And changes in your lifestyle also (such as exercising less) plays the role. However where you gain weight might be related to the menopause, like fat collecting around your waist more than your thighs and hip portion.
Cushing’s Syndrome
Weight gain is one common symptom of Cushing’s syndrome. It happens you are exposed to too much of stress hormone “cortisol”, which causes weight gain and various other abnormalities. You can also get Cushing’s syndrome if you are taking steroids for arthritis, asthma, or lupus. It can also occur when the adrenal glands produce too much cortisol or could be related to the tumor. The weight gain is commonly seen around certain body parts such as the neck, face, upper back, and waist.
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)
It is a common hormonal problem that happens to women of childbearing age. Women with PCOS grow a lot of small cysts on their ovaries. This condition leads to the hormone imbalances that influence the woman’s menstrual cycle and may lead to acne and extra body hair. Women with such condition are also resistant to insulin (the hormone that keeps in check to blood sugar), so it can cause weight gain. The weight normally gets collected around the belly portion, putting these women at a higher risk for heart disease.
