Is It Possible To Reduce Your Cancer Risk?
Advances in medical science and the numerous treatment options which have been discovered, have made it possible for many people to reduce their cancer risk. Cancer has presently become a manageable illness just like other chronic illnesses like diabetes, etc.
The discoveries which have been made by the scientific fraternity are showing that it is possible to reduce cancer risk by a large margin. People just have to make certain lifestyle changes in order to benefit from the discoveries. The lifestyle changes suggested are simple and they need people to keep a close watch on their diet and avoid toxic chemicals. Excessive exposure to sunlight can also make a big difference in reducing the risk of cancer. Let’s have a more-detailed look on how can people reduce cancer risk by using the methods suggested by researchers…
Cancer Risk Can Be Reduced By Avoiding Tobacco
Tobacco is a killer and it is well known that smoking has the potential to damage nearly every organ in the body. It is also the primary cause for 15 types of cancer which have been identified. People cannot assume they will be reducing cancer risk simply by staying away from cigarettes. They must also ensure they don’t use alternatives such as cigars, pipes, smokeless tobacco and chewing tobacco because they are all linked to this problem.
Care must be taken by people to stay away from passive smoke because it is known as a cancer risk as well. Thousands of people including children are suffering from conditions like asthma and pneumonia and other problems because of passive smoke. It may be difficult to avoid passive smoke completely but it is not impossible to do so in order to avoid the scourge of cancer.
Getting Enough Exercise
Having a proper diet without enough physical activity to keep the body healthy will not be helpful to reduce cancer risk. Therefore, people are advised to choose an activity which is suitable for their fitness level and continue with it without exceptions. Adults are advised to be active for a minimum of 30 minutes every day for five days or more per week. Children need to get double the exercise of adults to achieve the same objective.
Exposure To Sunlight
Consumer Products Are Also A Cancer Risk
Reports have been appearing that consumer products such as talcum powder, hair dye, antiperspirants and cosmetics of certain varieties could be potential cancer risks. The reports have been published despite there being no conclusive evidence that the products spoken about can cause cancer. However, the US FDA is continuing to monitor the studies regularly and is also issuing updates periodically.
Unlike in the past when people could only hope to get the best treatment available after being diagnosed with cancer, things have been changing with the advances that have been seen in medical science. It is now possible for people to reduce cancer risk by adopting some of the measures mentioned above to keep the problem of cancer at arms distance.
