Foods for Healthy, Beautiful Skin
How Water Benefits Your Skin
One of the best things you can do with your skin to keep it in shape is to drink lots and lots of water. It helps in keeping your skin moist, making those unwanted fine lines and wrinkles unnoticeable. It also enables your cells to take in the nutrients and flush out all the toxic material.
And it also helps with the blood flow, keeping your skin lustrous. The popular advice is to have 8 glasses of water every day, however, you may not need to drink exactly that many. The water in veggies, fruits, juice, and milk also counts toward your total.
Selenium for Your Skin
This mineral can help in protecting your skin from cells that accumulate free radicals. Free radicals are the major cause for the signs of aging such as tissue damage, wrinkles and dry skin, and even some diseases. Selenium can also help in the prevention of development of skin cancer. You can get selenium from button mushrooms, Brazil nuts, shrimp, lamb, and fishes like cod, snapper, halibut, tuna, and salmon. Cooked oysters, light turkey, sardines, crab, and whole-wheat pasta are also enriched with selenium.
Antioxidants for Healthy Cells
Antioxidants are important compounds that help in slowing and preventing the free-radical damage. They can be found in all kinds of foods, especially colorful vegetables and fruits such as tomatoes, berries, apricots, squash, spinach, beets, sweet potatoes, tangerines, peppers, and beans.
Fight Free Radicals with CoQ10
Your body produces a key antioxidant known as Coenzyme Q10. However, as you get older, your body produces less of it. Its function is to make energy and help your cells to work. CoQ10 can be found in fish like tuna and salmon, poultry, organ meats such as liver, and whole grains. If you are using a skin product that has CoQ10 in it, it can help to soften the wrinkles and other signs of aging.
Vitamin C: Power Over the Sun
With every passing year, the sun is becoming more and more harsh. It’s UV rays are causing various skin conditions. And the sun is always harsh on your delicate skin. But vitamin C can help you to protect your skin.
It also helps to undo the sun damage made to elastin and collagen, which keep your skin firm. Get vitamin C from citrus fruits, red bell peppers, papayas, broccoli, greens, kiwis, and brussels sprouts.
Vitamin E: Booster of Skin Health
Another antioxidant that can help to save your skin from sun damages and inflammations is vitamin E. You can get it from vegetable oils, seeds, nuts, olives, asparagus, spinach, and leafy greens.
Get Some Healthy Fats
Omega-3s and omega-6s are healthy fats which help to prepare your skin’s natural oil barrier and keeping away blemishes and dryness. Essential fatty acids like omega-3s and omega-6s help to keep your skin younger-looking and smoother. You can get them from canola oils and olive, walnuts, flaxseeds, and cold-water fish like sardines, salmon, and mackerel.
