Basic Detox Ingredients You Can Find in Your Kitchen
Imagine consuming all the fatty and oily foods without expelling every bit of it from your body. Aside from food intake, there are also alcoholic beverage and smoking cigars or cigarettes that we are exposing our bodies to. Just imagine how harmful they are especially if they stay longer inside our system.
Despite being told of how dangerous can these habits be, people can’t seem to give it up that easily. So instead of cutting it all together, they find healthy alternatives that can help counter these negative effects. One of the healthier choices is in the form of internal detoxification.
What is Detox?
Detoxing is a form of internal cleansing which helps eliminate the toxins in the body. Though there are organs specifically for this function, it is also best to supplement it by eating or drinking the right type of foods.
Detox drinks in particular have gained popularity among people who are planning to lose weight. The best thing with detox drinks is that it’s easy to make and the ingredients are not hard to find. It motivates people to be consistent with this practice, given the fact that the ingredients needed are inexpensive and easily available. We are doing good for our body without harming our wallets in the process.
So what are the basic detoxing ingredients that we can readily find in our kitchen? Read on to find out…
Lemon
Lemon is the most basic ingredient in making a detox drink. Just slice some, add water, and it’s good to go. Lemon is very important in making detox drinks because of four major reasons. First, it helps the digestion process. Drinking warm lemon water before hitting the bed and after waking up, helps the digestive system work properly. Second, drinking lemon water can help the stomach acid and bile production to work even if we are asleep. Third, it makes our skin more vibrant and younger looking since lemons are a very healthy source of Vitamin C. Fourth, it helps maintain a healthy body weight. People who are on the road of weight loss, should never skip lemons in their grocery list.
Turmeric
This bright yellow spice can do miracles to our body especially when it’s infused in warm water. Drinking turmeric water early in the morning can help lower sugar level since it helps the body to properly process sugar. This can greatly benefit those with a sweet tooth and those with Diabetes. It also reduces inflammation which helps people with arthritis by receiving any pain. Just like lemon, turmeric is also a good ingredient to be used for people who wants to naturally supplement weight loss and metabolic process. Aside from the turmeric water, it can also be used as an ingredient in food and dishes. Some people even mix a dash of it in their yogurts.
Mint
Others view mint as an accessory to help give detox water that added taste and refreshing feeling. But there is so much more to it than its flavors. Mint has long been used in natural medicine to help fight congestion and colds. It is also a good natural ingredient to fight bad breath and promote better oral health. According to studies, mint can also reduce depression as it is a natural stimulant. The smell of mint can alleviate mood and energize the brain.
Cucumber
Cucumber is a very versatile vegetable. It can be added to salads, sandwiches, and even water. Adding sliced cucumber to your detox drink comes with many benefits. Cucumber can aid in weight loss since it keeps us full, putting the impulsive snacking at bay. This vegetable is also a good source of antioxidants that can help the body fight cell damage. Vitamin C, beta carotene, and manganese are just few nutrients we can get from cucumbers.
Is detoxing necessary?
Just like supplement pills, detoxing is not necessary but doing so can help improve our overall health and wellness. It can help us achieve a healthier version of ourselves without overdoing exercise, clean eating, and meditation. It’s ideal for those people who are still in the first stages of transitioning to a healthier lifestyle and are experiencing difficulties. The moment detoxing becomes part of our system, the easier it is to stick with a healthy lifestyle for the long haul.
